En Primeur

Buying wine 'En Primeur' gives you the opportunity to buy wines, mainly from Bordeaux and Burgundy, which are still in the barrel. The advantage is it allows one to own wines at the price at which they are launched, which is often the lowest prices these wines will ever be. When these wines are ready to drink many years later, prices can escalate significantly (as has happened most recently in 2000 and 2005 in Bordeaux). Also, buying En Primeur allows one to buy wines which may come from a limited production and will be in short supply in the future. This principally applies to the wines of Burgundy. And buying En Primeur allows individuals to start building a cellar plan. You can identify wines you like, and know that when they mature you will already own them for your enjoyment.

Wines sold En Primeur are priced at Ex-Cellar pricing. When you decide that you want the wines delivered, duty will be charged (currently £17.49/case), as will VAT at the prevailing rate. We will also charge delivery at cost. The wines of Bordeaux are usually available for delivery two years after they have been bought En Primeur, while those of Burgundy can be delivered later in the same year of purchase.
