Leclerc Mondet, Chassins, Champagne
Hidden at the top of the village, over looking the River Marne, this family run house epitomises what we are trying to do. The Leclerc family owned four houses dotted around the winery and members of all generations work for the business, under the careful tutelage of the ‘Madame’. Wine-maker Fabien learnt his trade in
The family own 9½ hectares of vines in a number of parcels above the village, perfectly placed on the open south-facing slopes. Depending on yields, they produce between 100,000-120,000 bottles per annum, with 10% of the grapes going into their vintage and 10% into their Grande Reserve. The Grande Reserve is based on seven year old juice, and Leclerc Mondet bottle age the wine themselves in their own cellars. Everything is carefully hand-crafted and the passion the family has for their wines is so evident in the end result. They have a strict policy of not buying in any grapes, and so allocation is always an issue. We are very honoured to be the only British merchant to sell their fabulous wines.
