Domaine Latour-Labille, Meursault, Burgundy
We happened upon Cecile and Vincent's property rather by accident. It is tucked away just off the north of the square in the village and looks like an innocent family house from the outside. But down a few steps into the cellar and you are into the world of a domaine which the French wine press are lauding as one of the up and coming properties in Burgundy.
Their wines, from vines in both Meursault and Saint Aubin, are sublime. We were too slow to get an allocation of their Meursault 2006 (we won't make the same mistake for their 2007's) but we were able to get stock in their Bourgogne Rouge 2005 which shows the wonderful quality of that vintage, and their somewhat less fashionable Meursault Rouge 2006. There will no doubt be some who associate all things Meursault with the white grape of Burgundy, but those willing to go a little off the beaten track will find this village wine a real pleasure, and because it is not so well recognised it is extremely good value.
We would strongly recommend people keep an eye on this domaine. We suspect prices will start rising as their renown grows, but we do still consider their wines exceptionally good value.
