Saint André de Figuière, Côtes de Provence

Saint André de Figuière is perfectly situated between the Med and the Massif of the Maures. It covers 70 hectares in the village of La Lone les Maures, of which 43 are planted to vines. The estate benefits from two things. First, the long hours of sunshine in the region, the longest in France. Second, the influence of the sea air is very important - it acts as a thermal buffer enabling the vines to start growing early in the spring and the harvest can be carried out before the autumnal rains.

St André is a family business. Run by Alain Combard, his son and daughters are all involved and the wines are named after them. Their passion and love for what they are doing is very evident in their wines. For us, their rosés exemplify the wines of the region. They are beautifully light in colour, and are easy to drink, but they have enough fruit and weight to make one really appreciate the skill in the wine.

Wine to Watch: Magali Rosé 2008 £8.95 per bottle
