Mischa, Wellington, South Africa
One of the up and coming properties in the Cape, which has recently hit the other Mr. Parker's radar. The farm has been in the Barns family for three generations. Initially it was a mixed farming operation. In the late sixties they began experimenting with vines, which lead to them developing one of South Africa's largest vine nurseries.
Now the third generation (Andrew, Gareth and Shaun) are realising the family's ambition to become wine-makers. They built their cellar in 2000, extending it in 2004 to increase the barrel-storage. Andrew is the wine-maker making interesting and creative wines with their own character and personality. And they are getting better and better, but they remain realistic on pricing and so offer excellent value wines. They currently produce top quality Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot, but they are looking at developing other varieties.
