Escarpment, Martinborough New Zealand
Escarpment, Martinborough New Zealand - Situated near Wellington at the south eastern end of the North Island, the 24 hectare Escarpemnt property was established by pinot noir enthusiast Larry McKenna in 1999. Larry says his inspiration comes from Burgundy where he has worked during a number of vintages.
Located on the terraces of the Te Muna river, the site offers the special attributes that pinot noir needs and the wines produced have a structured elegance and complexity often lacking in the pinot noirs of New Zealand. 70% of the property is planted to pinot noir, with chardonnay, riesling and pinot gris also being grown. The emphasis for Larry now is to develop single vineyard cuvée, similar to those in Burgundy. Stock is very limited of these unique wines - please let us know if you are interested so we can try and allocate some.
