Warden Vineyard, Bedfordshire, England
First planted to vines by Cisterian monks in 1135, the site was replanted in 1986, with the first vintage being produced in 1990. Since then the vineyard has developed and has received many accolades in international wine competitions. Planted with Bacchus, Muller Thurgau, Reichsteiner and Regner, it produces wines of full rich and floral flavours with a crisp dry finish.
While many still regard the English wine industry as something to be chuckled at and mocked, those who have been following its development with a little more care will have seen properties such as Warden grow in confidence and style, and now produce wines which provide a structure and depth which stands up to any more recognisable wine producing country. For a country which constantly tells itself it 'Buy British', we believe those who have the nerve to 'Buy English' wines will be very pleasantly surprised.
