Yves Darviot, Beaune, Burgundy - Magnum Offer

Yves Darviot, Beaune – Red Burgundy Offer

Following on from Andrew Corben-Clarke’s latest trip to Burgundy we are delighted to have secured some rare cellar stocks in limited supply from the now happily retired Yves Darviot.  Many of you may remember him with affection from our dinner at the Carlton Club and as now he has sold his house and domaine we have been granted some goodies before he moves his personal cellar away from Place Morimont (although we are reliably informed he will have enough plenty left over to see him out!).  We at EPW respectfully wonder if our finds from the great 2002 and 2005 vintages would find a home in your cellar?  It is an end of an era for us with Yves but to have these swansongs in your own cellar would give great satisfaction.

2002 as a vintage was in some ways climatically similar to 2008 (now being harvested). The weather was uneven initially with rain in late August and early September causing some worries.  However, strong northerly winds dried the vines and concentrated the grapes.  The sunny weather from mid-September ensured perfect harvest conditions and an “Indian summer”.  The picked grapes were rich with thick skins but low tannins and touch of acidity.  Making a hallmark pinot noir vintage of concentration, colour and that classic acidity will ensure a fantastic future.  We are assuming that we do not have to remind our customers of the excellent quality of 2005 in Burgundy…

2005 Beaune 1er Clos des Mouches Rouge £225IB for 12 x75cl bottles
Often lost in the noise of customers clamouring for his excellently priced and perhaps more famous white (£275IB for 12 x75cl bottles – some stocks are still available of 2006) Yves’s Clos des Mouches Rouge from the gentle slopes bordering Pommard has rich black cherry is evident in abundance in this wine with some lifting and beguiling spice finessing the depth and weight adding real class.  Drink from now to 2015+

2002 Beaune 1er Greves £200 IB for 12 x 75cl bottles
Found on the amongst the very best of 1er Cru Beaunes and arguably a candidate for hailing for promotion to a Grand Cru in quality (but not in price!)  With violets on the nose: always a trigger for us of something very special in red Burgundy.  There is some velvety elegance here with some lovely red and black fruits following through to a long finish on the palate.  Drink from now to 2020+

2002 Beaune Longbois £165 IB for 6 x 150cl magnums
To find magnums at any time in Burgundy is a rara avis but to obtain these goodies at a price less than our highly popular 2003 can be viewed as a true bargain.  One criticism of Beaune can be is that they have so many 1er crus, how does one know the qualitative difference?  Well, you have two excellent examples above and what for those days when those guests that turn up that you do not wish to indulge or perhaps you would rather drink in quantity?  This wine admirably fills the gap with a balance and delicate fruit you would think would be more of an outlay…  Bank manager-friendly wine!  Drink from now to 2011+

**Special offer - one case of each of the above £575 IB**

This offer is open only for the next week (ending 10th October 2008) and remains subject to availability. Our usual delivery terms apply. E&OE.
