Maison Champy Dinner – Wednesday 15th October 2008. The Carlton Club, St. James’

We are delighted to be holding a dinner at the Carlton Club in St. James’s on Wednesday 15th October. Pierre Meurgey, one of the owners of this, the oldest négociant in Burgundy, has kindly agreed to talk about his wines over a delicious dinner in their historic Cabinet Room. Maison Champy have been based in Beaune since 1720 and whilst their history is as a renowned négociant they have increasingly become a biodynamic vineyard owner since Pierre and his two partners: his brother Henri and Pierre Beuchet; acquired the business in 1990. They have increasingly concentrated on the quality of the wines and have a skilled winemaker in Dimitri Bazas. The result has been a steadily improving reputation and today they are one of the most highly-regarded names in Burgundy that we have the pleasure of working with wines available for both drinking and cellaring.  

On arrival, we will be offering a glass of Champagne to all our guests and give them the opportunity to taste various wines from Maison Champy in the Carlton Club's Library before dinner. We plan to show the following wines:

We will then move to the Cabinet Room for dinner and enjoy eating and drinking the following:

Pierre will be discussing the wines and the philosophy of Maison Champy during dinner and we are delighted Derek Smedley MW, our wine consultant, will also be in attendance. The dinner will cost £125 per head (including VAT) with two or more places are available at the special price of £100 per head. We will meet from 7.30pm for the Tasting and move into Dinner at 8.30pm.
